Management Snapshot!

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” –William Butler Yeats

Goals:
Lesson development focused on differentiation to appropriately challenge students at all learning levels while also targeting different learning styles.

To develop cohesive units which integrate on-going assessment and provide a variety of means by which students can prove competence through multiple intelligences.

A classroom that utilizes technology and brings the English classroom into the 21st century.

A student centered classroom that is a safe and supportive classroom environment where students can freely express ideas and use discussion as a tool to socially construct meaning.

The following are four areas that I will emphasize in managing my classroom:

Organization: My organizational skills will be key to creating consistency in my classroom as well as in utilizing creativity and fun in an organized manner.

1. I will demonstrate organizational skills through my development of cohesive units and activities that reinforce school standards.

2. My organization will allow me to maintain consistency in expectations and in managing classroom environment.

3. I will use a systematic approach to organizing student work, as well as providing explicit instruction for how students can improve their own organizational habits.

Prevention: An effective teacher can successfully use prevention to maintain consistency and expectations for behavior within a supportive classroom climate.

1. Students will remain engaged through activities that challenge students at varying levels, through multiple intelligences and will complete relevant and meaningful work, preventing the frequency of off task derision.

2. The classroom climate will be based on a mutual respect between student and teacher, which will focus on behaviors to foster that relationship.

Intervention: Intervention begins with immediate and non-obtrusive measures, focusing on student choice in appropriate behavior. It is made effective through consistent use.

1. I will use love and logic strategies to hold students responsible for their behavioral choices through the use of enforceable statements. I will also use behavioral logs and work with students to develop plans for making positive behavioral choices.

2. Students will make the choice to comply or will be asked to leave, if necessary filling out a discipline plan. Repeated plans will result in parental contact.

Communication: A key aspect of a teacher's effectiveness is the ability to foster clear and regular communication.

1. I will maintain on-going communication with students and parents by running a class website and by sending home unit newsletters.

2. I will encourage parental involvement through specific activities and projects that welcome parents into the learning process and into the classroom (from guest speakers to field trips and project presentation days).
